Some features have been handled better than SnagIt however, some areas needs to be improved. I have been enjoying this app for quite some time. This is one of the most powerful screen capturing app coming close to SnagIt on Mac. I read reviews and heard of it in the Macworld Awards, so gave a try. I am a switcher for the past one year and I was looking for a screen capturing app which is of equal quality of Snag It on Windows for my tutorial work. An excellent screen capture application that's come a long way in a short time. If you've got a steady hand, Voila allows you to grab objects that would otherwise be limited to the square or rigid capture parameters of most general screen capture apps. The editing features could do with a little extending but it's sufficient for basic cutting. The most recent useful addition to Voila is the ability to trim screencasts using QuickTime. Added to the fact that recent captures are easily visible along the bottom of the interface, you're never left searching your hard drive for captures. Easily accessible from either the menu bar or Dock, your hand never needs to leave the mouse to reveal it. The overall accessibility of Voila is what impresses the most. Exporting from Voila can be done to PNG, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, GIF and BMP formats. There are a few filters too, including blurred, torn and framed edges. The app is solid and (egads!) support options are not only accessible but actually useful.Voila features all the standard options you expect from a screen capture tool, including annotation tools that allow you to add text, arrows, lines, crop and even add watermarks. After months of use, I’ve yet to need another app to prep images for documentation. The price tag is reasonable for such a substantial app. But with the possible exception of the elegant, powerful, and endlessly customizable interface for taking shots, the interface will be familiar to anyone accustomed to the usual image database and editing apps. One great picture being worth a thousand words, I’m writing a whole lot fewer words.Īll that functionality does involve a learning curve, just like any powerful app. Effects that were possible but not worth the trouble are now largely automatic. The ability to create presets for specific workflows is particularly useful. It’s satisfying to get such effective, elegant results with so little effort. SnagIt makes it feasible to produce illustrations of a quality and utility that, while always possible, was seldom worth the time and trouble.
